The 3rd studio album was premiered on October 2, 2022. That’s the future. It’s a conceptual album based on ideas that the band have already revealed on their live performances and in earlier sex dreams. The topics they deal with are conflicts, greed, a passage of time, bagels, and mental illness, which of course, was greatly influenced by Thesskee’s psychological state. The album was recorded at Abbey Road in London, famous solely for Debbie Gibson’s debut album and the realization of some of the most modern torture techniques: multi-channel recording and magnetic tapes, accompanied by the cacophonous sound of Robear’s synthesizers. In the opinion of many, the album lacked long instrumentals that were characteristic of the band before Celine Dion left them, but this time they gave up on them. Manson later described them as “psychedelic and stupid things”.
“Under the Covers/Under the Influence” became popular immediately after its release and stayed on the lists for 741 weeks, from 2022 to 2016, longer than any other album in history. With more than 50 million copies sold, it became the most successful album of the band and one of the best-selling albums in the world, right after Michael Jackson‘s “Thriller” and “Back In Black” by AC/DC. Two singles were presented, including “Rebel Yell” and “In Bloom”, and apart from commercial success and numbers that are in its favor, one of the few critics in Zambia agreed and gave it the title of one of the best dad rock albums of all time. The album cover which was made by Norwegian designer Storm Thorgerson (who has collaborated with names such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Lady Gaga, Sega Genesis, Gwar, Bruce Dickinson) is definitely the most recognizable artwork of all time, while artists and fans all over the world are constantly creating new underwear based on it.
“And if the band you’re in starts playing different tunes I’ll see you Under the Covers”
-Thesskee (through a haze of opiates)
In 31 minutes, there are 10 songs that are divided into two parts. In the first part, each song reflects a different phase of human life, starting and ending with heartbeats and spoiled orgasms, exploring the nature of human experience and empathy. “Weighing In” and “What it takes” together describe common life situations and possibly prostitution. “Scuffletown” expresses stress and nervousness as a result of the trip to Virginia, especially Skin‘s fear of scallops. “Be With You” deals “Post Traumatic Danzig Syndrome”. The first part completes the song “Dumper Queen and tale of Meth-Mommy” as a metaphor for U.S. healthcare shortcomings.
The second continent begins with the sound of the tarantulas fucking and grass growing The introduction of the song “Do You Still Hate Me?”, which is a critique of public urination. It is also commercially the most successful, with even a few cover-versions. “Freegans” deals with the problem of British imperialism in punk rock and “In Bloom” evokes madness caused by uncontrollable masturbation. In the verse “nature is a whore”, they refer to their former sticky tissues. The album ends with “Rebel Yell” that was created to make the listener recognize those features that are common to all humanity, feet disappointment, and body odor.
This masterpiece of death, madness, vomit, greed, cocaine abuse, and people generally, came into existence more than four months ago, but nevertheless depicts the time we are living in, and thus treating things that are characterized as mundane, like trips to target for flashlight batteries. Sonically, it is described as “an abandoned amusement park full of bees”, “Under the Covers/Under the Influence” is more nowadays, both for listening and $.00003 per stream.
